Mr. Owens from Essex had experienced huge fluctuations in his income over the years due to the nature of his self-employed business and had ended up owing a total of £46,193 to over a dozen different creditors. His major concerns were HMRC and Link Financial whom he owed £15,500 and £11,237 respectively, although a number of high interest credit cards and debt recovery companies featured high on the list.

Mr. Owens’ case was a severe one considering that his monthly income of £1,600 was barely enough to cover his living household living expenses of £1,466. Seemingly the only route that he had available was Bankruptcy, but having spoken to an expert at Debt Free Advice, he found that he may be eligible for an Individual Voluntary Arrangement instead.

After exploring this option further his creditors agreed to a the IVA as this would likely be of more benefit to all parties rather than not being able to pay anything back at all through bankruptcy. With so many different creditors involved, it had been difficult to organise and structure so many payments at once, however the IVA reduced this down into one monthly figure which would be distributed on his behalf to creditors.

Thanks to Debt Free Advice, Mr. Owens was able to avoid bankruptcy and continue his self-employed business. He is now firmly on the way towards building a debt free future for himself, all thanks to his initial Free Debt Review.
